Jane Kenyon only published four collections of poetry, but her reputation and influence, especially following her death from leukemia at the age of 47 in 1995, have continued to grow. Today she is widely recognized as one of America’s premier lyric poets. Sue Ellen Thompson will explore the impact that Kenyon's lifelong struggle with depression and her marriage to a future U.S. Poet Laureate had on her work. Several of her poems will be read and discussed, with particular attention paid to their plainspoken diction and use of metaphors from the natural world. Open to the public.
