The Environmental Activism of Beatrix Potter

While English author Beatrix Potter went on to fame and fortune as a children’s book writer and creator of Peter Rabbit, her true passion was preserving the landscape that provided inspiration for her stories: the hills and farms of western England’s stunning and dramatic Lake District. Tom Verde will discuss how Potter, an active conservationist, practically single-handedly saved the Lake District from development and deforestation, using the proceeds of her books to fund her efforts.
