The incomparable richness and intensity of Russian music following the 1917 revolution took on notes of sorrow, joy, and deep anguish during the early Stalin years. Three of the focal composers of that difficult, stirring period wrote wind and string sonatas that speak to us today with surprising directness — and beauty. Please join us as Maksim Shtrykov and Misuzu Tanaka return for their second Music Matters appearance. You've never heard so poignant and lovely a clarinet, nor such beautiful and heady pianism as when this duo play.
The 1886 Chickering concert grand, our 9' warm weather visitor, will make its third La Grua Center appearance. This 132 year-old time capsule is an extraordinary voice from the 19th-century, a concert grand of the sort familiar to our three Soviet-era composers.
Let friends know – this duo recital is a rare treat.
