Homage to Bach III
Chamber Duos from Leipzig
Bach chorales in chamber transcriptions
Violin sonatas by Joh. Sebastian Bach,
Johann Georg Pisendel,
& Georg Philipp Telemann
Our third Homage to Bach teleports us straight to Leipzig, epicenter of the brilliant Bach sphere. Intimate friends Sebastian Bach, Telemann, and Johann Georg Pisendel (1687-1755) shared original writing and changes in many of their compositions. In fact, we're still trying to sort out who wrote exactly what. Pisendel will startle you! A complex, richly emotive composer with a powerful command of the style he shared with Bach, he left many pieces still ascribed to his friend. Recently, surprised scholars have at last put a number of these attributions right. Peppered among the violin sonatas, we'll also hear Margaret's and Lena's own chamber transcriptions of the moving chorales of (mostly) Bach. They've a surprise in store for us at the end. To hear just what that is, you'll have to join us.
Masks are required for all attendees, regardless of vaccination status.
