Military Matters: Native American Military Service to the Nation~Kevin Brown

Native Americans serve in the United States Military at a rate higher than any other ethnic group, despite the complex history of Native American inclusion and recognition.  Kevin Brown discusses the history of his own Mohegan Tribe's military service, and offers other insights into why Native Americans serve.

Kevin “Red Eagle” Brown, Colonel (Retired) United States Army, is a member of the Mohegan Tribe of Indians of Connecticut, and a graduate of West Point. Kevin has 25 years of service in uniform as a leader of Infantry, followed by 6 years of service to his Tribal Nation as Chairman of the Mohegan Tribe and Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment. Kevin served multiple deployments to Iraq and currently serves on the National Museum of the American Indian Advisory Board for the development of the National Native American Veteran Memorial and the Board of Directors for the National Archives Foundation in Washington DC.
