A Trio of Piano Trios
Haydn  Piano Trio in G "Gypsy"
Jennifer Higdon  Piano Trio No. 1 (2003) "Color Through"
Beethoven  Piano Trio No. 5 in D “Ghost

Busy violinist and Stonington native Hilary Castle always bring superb New York colleagues and protein-rich chamber repertoire to Music Matters. This time, the three of them will indulge us with Haydn's brisk and magically engaging Gypsy trio and the most accessible of Beethoven's piano trios, the Ghost. Contemporary composer Jennifer Higdon's beautifully textured Color Through, with its two compact, fetching movements, will provide tuneful contrast to its Classical-era cousins. You'll also hear La Grua's popular Mason & Hamlin grand make its chamber music début with its lyrical new hammer felts.

We can't imagine a finer antidote to our southern New England January!
