More About our piano

1930 Mason & Hamlin

La Grua Center is proud to be home to a beautifully restored 1930 Mason & Hamlin Model AA parlor grand piano—an instrument of exceptional quality and character. Made during the final years of Mason & Hamlin’s original era of craftsmanship, the piano reflects the firm’s renowned attention to detail and tonal richness.

Acquired in 2012 through the generous support of many members of our community, this remarkable instrument has become a cornerstone of our musical programming. The purchase was the result of more than a year of dedicated work by our Music Matters committee and a passionate group of volunteers. Thanks to their efforts—and the financial contributions of numerous donors—we were able to bring this exceptional piano to La Grua Center, opening new possibilities for concerts, community recitals, and special events.

In 2021, the piano underwent a thoughtful restoration with the installation of new hammers, crafted as exact replicas of the originals, returning the instrument to its original tone and responsiveness. Its rich and lively sound continues to inspire performers and audiences alike, enhancing every concert experience at the Center.

We remain deeply grateful to the individuals and families whose support made this acquisition possible. Their generosity continues to resonate through every note played on this treasured instrument.
