More about Wendy:
Wendy Holden is a best selling British historian, novelist, and biographer with more than 40 books published. A former journalist and war correspondent, her non-fiction titles have chiefly chronicled remarkable lives including her bestselling book Born Survivors, which told the true story of three young mothers who hid their pregnancies from the Nazis and gave birth in the camps.
Several other titles feature victims of war, including
One Hundred Miracles, the memoir of teenage Holocaust survivor Zuzana Ruzickova, Behind Enemy Lines, the biography of Marthe Cohn (who died aged 105 on May 25) and Tomorrow to Be Brave, about the only woman in the French Foreign Legion.
Her novels include The Sense of Paper, The Cruelty of Beauty, and Mr Scraps. Her latest title, The Teacher of Auschwitz, published in the US on June 17 and in 24 other countries this year, was inspired by the true story of Fredy Hirsch, a young gay German Jew who defied the Nazis daily to protect thousands of children in his care.
