Schubert “Rosamunde” String Quartet in a, D.804
Debussy L’Isle Joyeuse (piano solo)
Thomas Adès Piano Quintet (2000)
Three heavenly chamber and solo works will fill the hall with alternately intimate and unbounded music making, a richly rewarding afternoon in the depths of our New England winter. The Avery Ensemble‘s press kit characterizes them as “greater than the sum of their parts”. Their performances unify seemingly disparate musical themes through distinctive instrumentation. As they begin, Schubert’s songful “Rosamunde” Quartet will draw us straight into chamber music’s loveliest reaches. The ensemble then paves a sumptuous sonic boulevard from Debussy’s ecstatic L’Isle Joyeuse, a gleaming piano solo, to the beautiful contemporaneity of Thomas Adés’ celebrated Piano Quintet. This’ll be a gorgeous chamber afternoon!
