Jiayan Sun‘s first two Stonington appearances presented him as one half of a piano duo/piano duet. This all-Chopin recital is his long-awaited Music Matters solo début. Jiayan will share an intimate look at some of the most colorful and entrancing repertoire by Poland’s national composer. These lyrical, poetic pieces challenged pianists and the fast-developing 19th-c. piano to produce unprecedented subtlety and – right out of the blue – astonishing power. The magnificent 1886 Chickering concert grand was built nearly four decades after Chopin last put quill to lined paper, but these exquisite scores are its native language.
